Charged with DWI in Hamilton Township

Nj.com has reported that the Hamilton Township Police Department arrested and charged one of their own with among other things, driving while intoxicated following an incident located outside Bill’s Old Tavern. According to the reports, officers were called to Bill’s Old Tavern around 1 a.m. Friday morning to investigate a motor vehicle accident. It appears that the accident was a single car accident whereby it is alleged that the Defendant had struck the front of the bar with his vehicle. The Defendant, a fourteen (14) year vet of the Hamilton Police Department was transported to the local hospital for a further evaluation. All reports indicate that the Defendant was only one injured as a result of the incident. He was ultimately charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. He was released upon a summons to appear in the Hamilton Municipal Court to answer for the charges. However, since the Defendant is a Hamilton police officer, the case will ultimately be transferred to another court for disposition.

  • Fines Ranging up to $400

If the Defendant’s BAC Great than .10% & this is Considered a First Offense:

  • Mandatory Seven to Twelve Month Driver’s License Loss;
  • Fines Ranging up to $500
  • Twelve to Forty-Eight Hours in the Intoxicated Drivers Resource Center
  • Thirty Days in the Mercer County Jail
  • Fees and Assessments Totaling $325
  • Insurance Surcharges for $1,000 a year for three years
