Domestic Violence Arrest Made in Trenton NJ Following Simple Assault Allegations

A twenty-five year old female from Trenton, New Jersey was arrested earlier this week and charged with an act of domestic violence following an incident this week on the 600 block. It has been reported that the City of Trenton Police Department was called to the 600 block of Southard Street around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday to follow up on a domestic violence dispute in progress call. According to the 911 caller, who also happened to be the victim, the Defendant had struck her across her face with the back of her hand following a heated argument. The strike had caused caused a laceration to the victims lip.

When the police arrived on scene they assert that they saw the Defendant flee the area and attempt to run back into the residence. According to the reports, the officers were quickly able to get the victim into custody following what they report as a brief struggle. Once the Defendant was formally placed under arrest, she was charged with one count of simple assault domestic violence and one count of resisting arrest. The Defendant was charged with one count of simple assault domestic violence because it was reported that the two parties were residing together in the residence. Based on the new bail guidelines, since it is an act of domestic violence, the Defendant must serve up to 48 hours in the Mercer County Jail pending a pretrial services investigation. Pretrial services will attempt to determine whether they can release the Defendant on certain bail conditions or whether the prosecution should seek a Detention Hearing. If a Detention Hearing is requested, the prosecution will be seeking to detain the Defendant in the Mercer County Jail pretrial, without bail. If this does occur, the Detention Hearing can and should be contested.
